Cathy has had enough. Having run away from her abusive husband, she tries to pick up the broken pieces of her life in a remote village, focusing on her dream to start her own cake business. Finding true love is the last thing on her mind. When she comes face to face with a man who looks exactly like the one she is struggling to forget, life throws the biggest challenge yet at her: Should she give in to his charm and care or is history going to repeat itself?

Almost as soon as Devika Fernando could write, she imagined stories and poems. After finishing her education in Germany and returning to her roots in Sri Lanka, she got a chance to turn her passion into her profession. Having lived in Germany and in Sri Lanka with her husband has made her experience the best (and the worst) of two totally different worlds - something that influences her writing. Her trademark is writing sweet, yet deeply emotional romance stories where the characters actually fall in love instead of merely falling in lust. What she loves most about being an author is the chance to create new worlds and send her protagonists on a journey full of ups and downs that will leave them changed. She draws inspiration from everyone and everything in life. Besides being a romance novel author, she works as a self-employed German web content writer, as a translator, and as a faithful servant to all the cats, dogs, fish and birds in her home. When she's not writing, she's reading or thinking about writing.

Cathy Nolan is a twenty-seven year old woman living a nightmare. Once she thought she had it all. A handsome husband who was on the fast track to real estate stardom helped her get fancy clothes, expensive jewelry, a monthly allowance deposited directly into her own account and all the niceties she wanted. However, just a few years into their marriage he also gives her slaps across the face, emotional damage and very low self-esteem. Finally she sees that enough is enough, packs her things and leaves him in a drunken stupor one night.

With nowhere to go she heads out. Arriving in a small neighborhood almost two hundred miles away Cathy finally thinks she has escaped. She moves into a small cottage that is owned by a sweet old lady who wants Cathy to call her Aunt Grindle. On a routine trip to the local grocery store Cathy meets a young man but is scared to death. She thinks it is her husband.

Michael Newland used to have a job in the city but got tired of it. He moved to this little town and became the local gardener and handyman for the townsfolk. He was well known and liked ... but he had a secret.

These two people who are trying so hard to put the past behind them meet in the most unusual way ...

That’s where I stop before I give too much away. This story hits home with anyone trying to restart their life for whatever reason. There is laughing, there is crying. There are nightmares and there are new memories.

I enjoyed this book. It was well written and flowed rather easily. I recommend it to anyone wanting to start fresh.
